Remand extension for Ziyath appealed for a second time

The remand extension by 15 days for a third time for Abdulla Ziyath, former managing director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), has been appealed in High Court for a second time.

This comes after High Court on 5 November 2015, upheld the first extension of Ziyath’s remand by 15 days.

The first hearing of the second appeal case has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Ziyath is in police custody on suspicion of corruption in the issuance of islands for resort development.

Police raided his apartment and seized some items on 14 October 2015.

Police have also raided MMPRC Office, but the nature of the items seized from both locations remains unclear.
