Remand period for former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor has been extended for the third time.

Criminal Court on Tuesday permitted for an additional remand period of another 15 days when the last remand period of 15 days ran out.

Adeeb was arrested upon arrival at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport on October 24th when he returned from Malaysia – a stop he made after his state visit to Singapore.

He was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into the explosion onboard presidential speedboat “Fininfenma”, which the government has declared as an assassination attempt of

President Abdulla Yameen.

Two additional charges have also been levied upon him. One being unauthorized ownership of a pistol; the second being involvement in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal along with former MMPRC boss Abdulla Ziyath.

Police have completed their investigation into the two latter cases and have sent them to Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution.
