Ten days to Hassantey

Ten days have been added to the remand of the MDP National Council Member and President of the MDP Inguraidhoo, Hassan Ahmed (Hassantey) by the Criminal Court who was arrested for imprecatory prayer.

The court order for Hassantey’s arrest issued yesterday lists disrupting religious unity as the charges for his arrest along with suspicion of leading a separate congregation to make prayer after the Friday prayers on 20 November after the Islamic Minster ordered not to make prayer in separate congregations outside the Islamic Center.

The court order also said that the Islamic Ministry ordered not to make a separate congregation and pray outside the Islamic Center after the Friday prayers in such a way that would create conflict among the people to achieve a political motive.

A statement issued by the Islamic Ministry said that imprecatory prayers are being performed outside the Islamic Center after Friday prayers and that it is not allowed in the religion. And so steps would be taken against those who continue to perform imprecatory prayers.
