Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has completed their report on the issue of detainment of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed (Judge Abdulla), and sent the report to Prosecutor General (PG) Office.
A senior official of PG Office said that the report was received late yesterday, and that it is currently under assessment.
He said that the Commission has been asked to provide all statements and evidence in relation to this case, as this is required before a decision can be made on the case submitted by the Police to press charges against former President Mohamed Nasheed regarding the arrest of Judge Abdullah.
“We received the report from HRCM after office hours yesterday. We are assessing the report now. We have requested them to send the statements and evidence in relation to this case,” the official said.
The former government, Police and MNDF refused to comply with High Court and Supreme Court orders to release Judge Abdullah, who was detained in Girifushi in violation of the Constitution for 22 days.
HRCM member Ahmed Abdul Kareem said that it had not yet been decided to share the report with the media, and that the report will only be sent to the relevant authorities of the government.
Judge Abdullah was released on the day the government changed.
