Police may have to be involved if Hinnavaru Council refuses to cooperate: ACC

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that Lh. Hinnavaru Council failed to cooperate when ACC’s team visited Hinnavaru to investigate a case, and that they may have to involve the Police if the Council refuses to cooperate.

President of ACC Hassan Luthfee said today that the Councilors of Hinnavaru have refused to provide statements, and that if they fail to follow the notification to produce themselves for the investigation, Police will be involved to summon them for the investigation.

“Those who fail to show up for the investigation after being told to do so, are being sent a notification. If they don’t comply with the notification, we will have to involve the Police,” Luthfee said.

When asked about the details of the corruption case being investigated on Hinnavaru Council, where MDP holds majority, Luthfee said that details cannot be provided as the case is under investigation.

He said that ACC investigators were asked to leave the Council Office while they were conducting their investigation, by indicating that the office can only be open for one hour.

Also, when asked for photocopies of some documents, they asked for money and refused to provide the copies.

“We were allowed in the office for about one hour. When the time was up, they asked us to leave. They took it to the level that we almost had to pay for the electricity and water. They refused even to make a photocopy for us, said that they will charge us for that,” Luthfee said.
