Bangladesh thanks Maldives for reopening mission in Dhaka

President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid has thanked Maldives for reopening the High Commission in Dhaka.

Bangladeshi paper Daily Star reported that the new High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh Mohammed Asim made a courtesy call on Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid yesterday.

Also, in a separate meeting with Asim yesterday, Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid welcomed him and thanked the Maldives government for reopening the resident mission in Dhaka.

Maldives first established a High Commission in Bangladesh in July 2008. It was closed in 2014, reportedly for financial reasons.

Until now, issues related to Maldives and Bangladesh were handled by Maldivian High Commission in New Delhi, India.

There is a large number of Bangladeshis working in the Maldives.
