Establishment of a courtroom to conduct hearings via video conference has begun in the Police detention island of Dhoonidhoo.
Media Official of the Criminal Court, Ahmed Mohamed Manik told Sun Media tonight that the establishment of a courtroom in Dhoonidhoo is now underway.
He said that the project is not targeted towards a specific person, but something they have planning to do before as well.
Manik said that a regulation for such conduct has been prepared and passed by the Judge’s Council of the Court.
“This is also something that would lighten the state budget. Police say that they are spending a lot to bring detainees to Court. So this is something that would cut cost from the state budget.” Manik said.
While a courtroom is being established in Dhoonidhoo, the former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor who has been implicated in the explosion on board the Presidential Launch is also detained in Dhoonidhoo.
Adheeb’s remand hearings have so far been conducted via video conference between Dhoonidhoo and the Criminal Court.
