An MRI machine and the scanning services has begun at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the MRI center at IGMH, the Health Minister Iruthisham Adam said that the machine was installed with the initiative of President Abdulla Yamin. Minister Iruthisham said that a large number of people were consulted and since it took a long time for the installation, a decision was made on 30 June to take MVR 23 million directly from the budget to continue the project.
“Since a long time was passing without the MRI scan machine, he (the President) decided to purchase the machine on the Government expense and continue the project here (IGMH).” Health Minister Iruthisham Adam said.
The Health Minister said that while the project began on 30 June of this year, they got a small time period to complete the project. And due to the installation of the machine today, the health sector would achieve further advances.
Minister Iruthisham said that although 23 million was spent to install the machine, an addition cost went to finding the doctors for the machine.
The Health Minister said that with the opening of the MRI center today, the cost of diagnosis would go down considerably. And the center would bring the service closer to the people.
The import and installation of the MRI machine at IGMH was done through state company, STO. And the machine was installed at the previous dialysis center.
Until now, the MRI services was only available at ADK Hospital.
