Detention extension for Adeeb lawful, High Court rules

High Court has ruled that the extension of the detention period by 15 days for Vice President Ahmed Adeeb by the lower court was lawful.

This came in the verdict for the appeal case in this regard, filed by Adeeb.

The verdict hearing was closed for media. High Court procedure states that detention hearings shall be open to suspect’s family members only.

Adeeb was arrested upon arrival in Maldives on 24 October 2015, in relation to the 28 September explosion on the presidential speedboat.

Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer has said that there is evidence linking the explosion to Adeeb. He has not provided details, citing the ongoing investigation.
