Hamid Ismail, managing director of Millennium Capital Management, and three other Maldivians who were arrested in Malaysia have been deported by Malaysian authorities.
Hamid’s lawyer Husnu Al-Suood, who is in Malaysia, said a Malaysian official source had confirmed that Hamid, one other man, and two women had been deported from Malaysia.
Those deported are Hamid Ismail, his wife, former minister Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and a woman who has not been named.
Suood said that a cased claiming Hamid’s innocence had been filed to Malaysia’s High Court, for which the first hearing was scheduled for 9 November.
Maldives Police said that Maldivian authorities were informed only of Hamid’s arrest, and the reason for the three remaining arrests is not known.
Minister at President’s Office Mohamed Hussain Shareef was asked not to report to work last week, following which he tendered his resignation.
Hamid was arrested in upon arrival Malaysia from Singapore exactly one month after the boat blast incident.
