Foreign Secretary Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed has departed to New York to attend the Security Council (UNSC) Open Debate on the Middle East including the question of Palestine, scheduled to take place on 22 October 2015.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Security Council Open Debate will be held at ministerial level and will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain Jose Manuel, as current President of the Security Council.

The debate will be focused on seeking solutions to the Middle East problems and the way forward, including the question of Palestine.

The Foreign Secretary is also scheduled to deliver a statement on behalf of the government of Maldives at this open debate.

The Maldives remains steadfast in its support to the Palestinian people and their efforts to establish a Palestinian State within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and calls for an end to the violence across the Middle East.
