Four charged with terrorism in relation to Shiyar murder

Four suspects have been charged with terrorism following the murder of Hussain Shiyar, 19, Atheena, Seenu Maradhoo.

The suspects are Ismail Rasheed, Seenu Hithadhoo; Ali Sam’aan, Seenu Hithadhoo; Mohamed Nifaz, Seenu Maradhoo; and Mohamed Azan, Seenu Maradhoo.

Shiyar died while receiving treatment at Hithadhoo Regional Hospital after being stabbed in an assault which took place in front of his house at around 10:00 p.m. on 15 June 2015.

All four suspects denied the charges at today’s hearing and requested lawyers.

The State Prosecutor said that the suspects were seen carrying two machetes between 9:00 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on 15 June 2015, and were wearing black masks when they attacked Shiyar later between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

While in hospital, Shiyar is said to have said, “I was attacked by Azan’s group.”
