Umair Abu Bakr who has been removed from B. Thulhaadhoo council has started to impede the council meetings. The council has removed Umaira from the council saying that she was absent for 10 consecutive meetings without a valid reason.
Ahmed Rasheed, president of the MDP majority council said today that while a council meeting was going on Umaira came in to the meeting hall and started to shout saying that without her presence the meeting cannot be continued.
“When a council meeting was going on Umaira came here and said that without her presence council meetings cannot be continued. Then one councilor left the hall saying he does not want to discuss about that. So we discontinued the meeting,” said Rasheed.
Umaira said that she has impeded the meeting since the council meetings are going on without looking at the High court ruling. She also said she has been signing the attendance register even after the council has informed her of being removed from the council, but now they are hiding the attendance register from her.
“When I went to sign today I could not see the attendance register. The administrative staff also did not know its where about. When I was searching for it, I saw that it was kept in cupboard to hide it from me. Then I entered the meeting hall and impeded the meeting which was going on at that time. They can’t have meetings like that without my presence,” said Umaira.
When the Election Commission announced to have a bi-election after Umara has been removed from the council, DRP filed a case in the High court and the High Court ordered the Election Commission not to have the bi-election in that constituency.
Rasheed said that they will ask for an advice from the local government authority since Umaira is impeding the council meetings saying that she is a member according to the High Court ruling.
