Ukulhas Council safes broken into with MVR 300,000 stolen

A. A. Ukulhas Island Council has reported that two of their safes had been broken into, with money stolen amounting to over MVR 300,000.

Ukulhas Council Vice President Abdulla Firaq informed Sun Online that the office building had been broken into through a window facing the west Sunday night.

“Something was lodged into the door of the safes leaving them badly damaged,” said Firaq.

He said that police had started investigation into the robbery but that no arrests had been made as of yet.

He said that the income earned by the Council had been banked on Sunday, and that the money in the safes were kept to pay some bills.

Firaq added that it had been raining heavily Sunday night, and that the office building had no security guard.
