India has sent a retired Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, to assist the National Commission of Inquiry (NCI) formed to investigate the change of government.
The Indian Express referred to officials of India’s External Ministry and said that retired Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal will help the commission in reaching its conclusion.
He was also asked to determine if the transfer of power was constitutional or not. The article does not indicate if this request was made by the Indian or Maldivian government.
The government agreed to review the composition of the NCI one day before Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG)’s deadline to make the NCI impartial.
It was agreed to allow a Singaporean retired Judge as a co-chair and also to include a representative member of President Nasheed. The new deadline for the Commission to complete its work is 31 July.
