Moosa: MDP

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Reeko Moosa Manik has said that the calls by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for sanctions against Maldives are unacceptable.

Speaking at the parliament today, the former MDP Chairperson said that MDP President Mohamed Nasheed would not agree with this either.

“None of us MDP members can accept calls made in MDP’s name for sanctions against Maldives,” he said.

He added that MDP leadership does not want to free Nasheed.

This comes after MDP National Council passed a resolution last night, urging sanctions against Maldives following the government’s rejection of UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention’s decision whereby it called to release Nasheed.
