Minister of the President’s Office, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) has said that has never said that the explosion on the Presidential launch was a planned attack.
Responding to questions by Sun Media from Colombo regarding some of the local headlines following an interview of Mundhu to CNN, the Minister of the President’s Office said that he did not say that he did not say that there is a chance that the explosion on the President’s launch was a planned attack.
CNN has reported that Mundhu has said that there is a possibility of “foul play” behind the explosion on the launch.
“Even you would believe that looking at this incident, nothing is impossible. And one cannot say that this incident has happened in a specific way.” The Minister of the President’s Office, Mundhu, who is in Sri Lanka sharing the news with the international community, said.
The report from the CNN says that Mundhu said that the chances of mechanical failure being the behind the reason for the explosion is small.
Mundhu said that he said that because those vessels area well maintained and repaired vessels and believes that there is a small chance for such an incident.
In the explosion on the President’s launch earlier today the First Lady sustained four spinal fractures and left a Presidential aide and a bodyguard injured.
The Maldivian Government has requested aid from the American and Australian authorities in the investigation of the explosion that took place earlier today while the President and the First Lady were traveling from Hulhulé to the Capital, Malé after their Hajj Pilgrimage.
