MDA calls to expedite investigation of explosion on President

Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has called to expedite the investigation and take action against those who were negligent, following an explosion on a speedboat carrying President Abdulla Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim on Monday morning.

The President was unharmed, while the First Lady suffered spine fractures in the incident.

MDA said in a statement that it is the responsibility of all citizens to guarantee the safety of the President and his family, and called on relevant authorities to make arrangements to ensure that the President and his family receive full protection and security.

The party said that people are in a state of concern and uncertainty following the incident.

In addition to the President and the First Lady, MDA Leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, MDA Deputy Leader Ali Mauroof, and several ministers were on board the speedboat at the time of the incident.

They were traveling from the airport to Malé upon conclusion of their hajj pilgrimage.
