Three former members of Thilafushi Board accused of corrupt practices

A case has been filed to court, accusing three former members of Thilafushi Board of having used their authority to influence the decision to award the Thilafushi reclamation project to Hulhuhenveiru MP Reeko Moosa Manik’s Heavy Load.

A senior official of the Prosecutor General’s Office said that charges are pressed against two former Managing Directors of Thilafushi Corporation Mohamed Wafir of G. Rangireege and Ibrahim Riyaz of Ma. Mazaage, and its former Director Ahmed Adhlee Rasheed.

Referring to details of the case, the official said that the three individuals were members of the Board and Evaluation Committee of the company, and they are accused of using power outside of the committee’s mandate, to influence the decision to award the reclamation project to Heavy Load. As they had released Rf38.6m as mobilization payment to Heavy Load, they are accused of using their authority to unjustly influence decisions to benefit Heavy Load.

Heavy Load was awarded the reclamation project for $21m (Rf323m). However the project has since been disrupted, with the excavator moved to another location.
