Welcome to the live blog of the year’s Maldives Association of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators (MATATO) Travel Awards.
This year’s grand finale is being brought to you from Coco Palm Bodu Hithi. A special edition of the MATATO Travel Awards was also held in Dubain in May.
Winners from ten categories were awarded in the Dubai event. A total of 21 winners would be awarded in the event tonight organized by High Rise.

Soneva Fushi wins the award for the Leading Luxury Resort. Huvafenfushi won the award last year.

Centara Grand Island Resort and Spa wins the award for the Leading Family Resort. They won the award in 2013 as well.

Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa wins the award for the Leading Designer Resort. The was won by usit Thani Maldives run by a Dubai company.

Per Aquum Niyaama wins the award for the Leading F&B Resort. Taj Exotica has won the award last two years.

Per Aquum Huvafenfushi wins the award for the Most Romantic Resort. They won the award for the Leading Luxury Resort last year.

Lux Maldives wins the award for the Leading All Inclusive Resort. Lux Maldives won the same award in 2013 but the award was won by Centara Grand Island.

Villa Hotels wins the award for the Leading Local Hotel/Resort Brand.

Anantara Veli Resort and Spa wins the award for the Leading Wellness and Spa Resort. This is the first time they have won this award. Six Senses Resort and Spa has won the award last year.

Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu wins the award for the Leading CSR Program. This is the first time they have won this award. Kurumba Maldives has won the award in the two previous years.

Villa wins the award for the Leading Domestic Airline. This is a newly introduced award this year. The award was presented by the General Manager of Maldives Airports Company Limited, Mujuthaba Latheef.

The speech of President of MATAO, Abdulla Giyas has finished. He said that as this year’s event is successfully underway, the 2016 Travel Awards would be different.
Next year this award would be presented very differently. That is because next year is the 5th anniversary of this award.
