Islamic Ministry has said that an agreement will be signed soon with Saudi Arabian government to construct mosques in Maldives.
Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said last night with reference to his discussions with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Maldives in Sri Lanka during his visit to Sri Lanka, that the MOU with Saudi Arabian government will be signed soon.
“An MOU will be signed soon between Maldives and Saudi Arabia, for Saudi Arabia to assist with the building of several mosques in Maldives. The Ambassador assured that the Saudi Arabian government will assist Maldives in every possible way,” Shaheem, who is still in Sri Lanka, told Sun.
Other topics discussed between the two diplomats include increasing the number of Maldivians going for the Hajj pilgrimage, preparation of 500 custodians, and a visit to Maldives by Imam of Kaaba Dr Sudais.
Shaheem said that he also met with the Ambassadors of UAE and Egypt.
Discussions held with the Egyptian Ambassador include a request to grant placement at Azhar University for two Maldivian students who were forced to leave Libya due to the political unrest, and scholars of Azhar Islamic Research Academy visiting Maldives during Ramadan.
Shaheem is scheduled to meet with the Ambassador from Qatar tomorrow.
