President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom declared that he was less concerned with competing with another political party, and more concerned with solving challenges faced by the Maldivian people.
He made the statement during the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on Saturday night to mark end of second workshop held to prepare campaign leaders for President Yameen for next presidential election. He said that those in power needed to focus more on serving the people than on competing with some other party.
“I am not competing with a political party. I am not competing with my own party. I am not competing with any other political candidate. I, and my party are working on providing services to the people. On solving challenges faced by the people,” said President Yameen.
He said that anyone who wished to become president should not enter the presidential race just for prestige and the many incentives that come with the job, but that anyone who entered the presidential race should have an understanding of the problems faced by the people.
