Investigations begin into Police CCTV cameras near Henveiru park being damaged

Police have commenced an investigation into the cables of Police CCTV cameras near Henveiru Park being cut off by City Council while they were levelling the ground of the park.

A Police media official said yesterday that the cables of three CCTV cameras had been cut off, resulting in the cameras ceasing to function, and that Police have commenced an investigation into this matter.

“We are trying to determine why the cables were cut off while they were digging the ground. That’s why we are investigating the matter,” the official said.

Male City Council member Ahmed Abdul Kareem (Rukuma) said that had was not aware of any such incident, and that no City Council employee had been digging the ground in that area.

“The only thing we are doing there is leveling the ground before Euro begins. We are not digging,” Rukuma said.

Damage had also been caused to some equipment of Voice of Maldives on a previous occasion while the ground was being leveled in this area.
