President Yamin: The highest priority is to improve the economy and the quality of life of the people

President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has said that the highest priority of this Government is to improve the economy and the quality of life of the people of the Maldives.

Speaking the Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce, Gao Yan’s visit to the President’s Office to pay her respects to President Abdulla Yamin, the President said that empowering youth and providing housing for them is one of the most important promises of his. And so the bridge project is closely connected to the dreams of the youth.

Noting that the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge to be built with Chinese aid between Malé and Hulhumalé is connected to the dreams of the people of the Maldives, President Yamin said that achieving a lot of the Government’s economic and social goals would be easier because of the bridge project.

President Yamin also noted the interest of investments in the Maldives by Chinese businesses in the meeting and said that the Maldives would always welcome Chinese investments in other sectors.

The President said that Maldives is a friend to all nations and would work to maintain strong relationships with every country that respects the Maldivian nationalism.

At the meeting today, the Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce, Gao Yan said that she has closely gauged the importance given to the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge by the people of the Maldives along with the Government.

And so she assured that the Chinese Government will continue to give full support to successfully complete the project. Ms. Gao Yan said that she hopes that more projects like the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge project would be done by the two countries.

Noting that the project is the first of it’s kind in the Maldives, President Abdulla Yamin discussed the progress of the project with the Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce.

And so the President shared that challenges faced by the project to the Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce. Ms. Gao Yan expressed her gratitude to the President and the Maldivian Government for their support in completing the project saying that it is crucial to the success of the project.
