Nasheed lied by saying that Shafeeu will resign: Spokesperson

The President’s Office has said that former President Nasheed was lying when he said that Ismail Shafeeu will resign from his post of President of the National Commission of Inquiry (NCI).

Spokesperson of the President’s Office Abbas Adil Riza said that Shafeeu has no intention to resign.

He said that Shafeeu had indicated that he would go for Umra at the end of this month, but will continue with the work of NCI after his trip.

Abbas said that someone will replace Shafeeu as the Chair of NCI while he is away, but did not disclose who will replace him.

“It is an outright lie by former President Nasheed, a complete lie. Shafeeu is leaving for Umra at the end of this month. It is sad that someone who held the post of President can make up such lies,” Abbas said.

Former President Nasheed said in a news conference held earlier today that Ismail Shafeeu will leave NCI on 31 May following several people complaining about him, and that the moderator of all-party-talks Ahmed Mujtaba will replace him.
