Vice President Ahmed Adheeb has said that the Government will overcome social challenges by improving the economy.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the final design for the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge at the Raalhugandu (Surf Point) area, Vice President Adheeb said that some people are criticizing the government saying that this government is prioritizing economic state over the social state but the social state can be improved via economic growth.
“When the economy was poor and weak, we have made it upright and today we see even on a global level, megaprojects.” Vice President Adheeb said.
“We will go forward and we will celebrate with fireworks.” Vice President Adheeb said.
The final design of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge was inaugurated tonight by the Vice President of the Maldives, Ahmed Adheeb and the Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce, Gao Yan.
While the bridge would cost USD 300 million, the Chinese Government has agreed to give free aid of USD 100 million. And a loan USD 170 million would be given by the Chinese with an interest of two percent. Finance Minister Jihad has previously said that the Maldivian Government would spend USD 30 million to build the bridge.
The Government has previously said that the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge is the most prioritized project of this government.
