The Judges Bench at the Supreme Court has decided to establish a Judicial Academy in the Maldives.
The circular issued by the Supreme Court says that the Judicial Academy is being established under the power authorized to the Supreme Court under Article 141 and 156 of the Consititution.
“…On 31 August 2015, the decision has been made to establish a Judicial Academy consisting of members selected from teachers of Bench, Bar, Law and Studies of Law.
According to the circular the teachers at the Academy would also be assigned by the Supreme Court.
The circular also includes the regulations of the Judicial Academy.
The regulations say that the Academy consists of a board which would be chaired by the Chief Justice and the Vice Chair would be a judge of the Supreme Court.
The rest would be the High Court’s Chief Judge and Chancellor, judges from the lower courts selected by the Supreme Court, a notable lecturer from the National University or the Islamic University.
