Police have said that so there is no evidence of negligence from any institute of the state regarding the fleeing of Azlif Rauf who left the country claiming he was going to fight in a war.
Responding to a question from Sun Media at the press conference held by the Maldives Police Service today, the Head of the Crime Investigations Command, Chief Superintendent of Police, Hamdhoon Rasheed said that there was no order prohibiting Azlif’s departure when he left the country. And that he was not under any legal bond either.
“When he left, no institute of the state received any order to detain him. In the investigation so far, we (the Police) have found that no state institute has to be responsible in this.” Chief Superintendent Hamdhoon said.
Regarding the rumors that the Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor had a hand in Azlif’s departure from the country, Chief Superintendent Hamdhoon said that they have found no evidence to support that from the information they have received so far.
The Police were ordered to investigate Azlif’s departure by the President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom.
Police sent a case against Azlif and some others to the PG’s Office on conspiracy to the murder of Dr. Afrashim. But the case was rejected due to lack of evidence.
