Child dies after grandmother mistakes chemical for water

A child has died in Alifu Dhaalu Dhangethi after his grandmother gave him chemical, thinking it was water.

The victim, two-year-old Ahmed Ahsan, is also disabled.

Police said that he died while receiving treatment at Dhangethi Health Centre.

Dhangethi Council President Abdul Hannan Mohamed told Sun Online that Ahsan's grandmother mistook hardener, a chemical, for water.

According to Abdul Hannan, Dhangethi has a lot of boats and it is common to find hardener in people's homes in the island.
