President pardons drug convict serving ten-year prison sentence

Ismail Shaheem, sentenced to ten years in prison for drug trafficking, has been pardoned by President Abdulla Yameen.

According to police Shaheem was a member of Safa, a major drug network led by Ibrahim Shafaz Abdul Razzaq.

Correctional Service Spokesperson Moosa Zameer told Sun Online that the pardon was granted in accordance with the Clemency Act.

President Yameen also pardoned two others yesterday, in addition to Shaheem.

They are Hussain Didi, who had been sentenced to six months in prison for theft; and Ilyas Fuad, who had been sentenced to six years in prison for a drug offence.

Shaheem was arrested in a room in H. Fashange, while packing drugs, on 23 June 2011.
