Spokesperson: Ibu said the Government did not agree to anything

While MDP has decided to discontinue official talks, the Government has said that the MDP representative in the talks, Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih (Ibu) has previously said that no agreements were achieved in the talks so far.

In an interview to Sun Media today, the Spokesperson for the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that after the latest meeting of the official talks, Ibu spoke in front of the press.

Spokesperson Muaz said that the media has the recordings of Ibu’s words and he clearly said that no agreements were made during the discussions with the government.

“You would have the recording, (on it) Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih would say that no agreement has been so far. That nothing have been achieved in the discussions. That’s what Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih said.” Spokesperson Muaz said.

He said that the President’s Office learned about MDP’s decision to discontinue talks through the media and that the party has not stated that they have made such a decision.

Muaz said that President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom’s offer for Political parties to hold discussions with the Government is still open.

The Spokesperson of the President’s Office said that MDP’s decision to discontinue talks was a baseless decision.

“The Government sees it as MDP blaming some excuse on the Government to step away from the people’s success, the benefit and profit.” Spokesperson Muaz said.

Spokesperson Muaz said that President Yamin offered the invitation for discussion on account of protecting the interests of the people and there is not discussion from the government to protect the interests of one person.

“The Government is offering to protect the interests of all the citizens, (the Government is) not trying to protect the interests of one person. There is no difference between now and when the discussions about the political state of the country. If someone was serving a sentence back then, they are serving that sentence now as well.” Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali said.
