Man sentenced to ten years in prison for sexual abuse of minor

A man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for sexually abusing a minor in Shaviyani Funadhoo.

The convict is Mohamed Reeshan, Naseemeege, Shaviyani Funadhoo.

An official of Funadhoo Court told Sun Online that Reeshan was found guilty of the offence, which took place in September 2014, based on the evidence presented in court by the State.

Article 3 (a) of the Special Provisions Act to Deal with Child Sex Abuse Offenders states, “It is an offence to intentionally touch a child’s body with a sexual intent.”

Article 3 (c) states, “Offence prescribed in (a) of this section shall be punishable with imprisonment for a period between 10 years and 14 years.”
