The National Congress of the opposition MDP has decided to discontinue talks with the Government.

The decision was made with the unanimous vote of all the members present at an emergency session of the congress held at the MDP halls tonight.

The resolution presented by the MDP’s President for Malé constituency, Akram Kamaaluddhin says to end the talks with the Government due to their actions.

All the members who talked about the resolution supported it.

Speaking about the resolution, Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih (Ibu) said that he does not believe that the talks with the government would make any headway and so does not want to continue the talks.

“In this I believe the opinions of more people are needed, that ew thinking has to enter into the party talks. Surely I’m ready to give that opportunity.” Ibu said.

He said that he would serve the party wherever he may stand.

With the imprisonment of the former President Nasheed for 13 years began protest rallies that incited political chaos. And the international communities called for talks. Then the Government and MDP began official talks. But those talks have now been interrupted.
