President Yameen sends message of sympathy to Thai Prime Minister

President Abdulla Yameen has sent a message of sympathy to Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayuth Chan-ocha, following the bomb blast near the Erawan Shrine.

The President’s Office said that President Yameen’s message read as follows:

“It was with deep shock and sadness that I learnt of the deadly bomb blast near the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok, causing the tragic loss of lives and grievous injury to many. The Government and people of the Maldives join me in condemning this cowardly act of terror in the strongest terms.

“The Maldives stands firm in its commitment to the fight against the global menace of terrorism, and will continue to work closely with Thailand and the international community as a whole in eliminating the scourge of terrorism.

“During this period of grief, I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Thailand. Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
