A bill has been submitted to the Parliament to fine those who provide telecom services without a license with MVR five million.
The bill from the government that was submitted by the MP for the Inguraidhoo constituency, Ibrahim Falaah says that those who provide telecom service without a license and those who keep such radio communication equipment without a permit would be fined by no more than MVR five million. And a fine no higher than MVR 100,000 can be enforced for each day after breaking the said law.
The bill by MP Falaah says that along with the using networking equipment without a permit, those who are involved in the sale of such equipment would also be subject to a fine of MVR five million.
His bill says that the institute that issues the said license would issue two types of licenses which are an Individual License and a Class License.
According to the bill, those who fail to make the payment for the Individual License would be fined by MVR one million. And those who fail to abide by the regulations of that license are also subject to the same fine.
A fine of MVR one million is also set for going out the regulations of the licensing authority.
MP Falaah said that the purpose of the bill was to establish a regulation on the telecommunication in the country and to establish a licensing regulation as well.
