President lays foundation for Hulhumale tertiary hospital

President Abdulla Yameen and businessman Champa Mohamed Moosa (Ichu) on Thursday morning laid the foundation for the tertiary hospital being built in Hulhumale’.

Construction work on the historic hospital has been assigned to Turkey-based company ALKE Turmaks, while management of the hospital has been assigned to Malaysian company Ramsay Sime Darby.

Chairman of Champa Brothers Hussein Afeef said that the construction work alone was expected to cost an estimated USD 60 million, while the final cost is expected to exceed that amount.

Afeef said that they had bought the land the hospital was being built on for USD 4 million, and that construction work on the hospital would start Thursday morning.

“God willing, this building will be complete by November net year,” said Afeef.

He noted that construction and management of the hospital had been assigned to leading experts in the field, and that the hospital would become the best of its kind in the region once it’s complete.

Afeef said that their hope was to see a lot of Maldivians working in the hospital, and that they would be happiest to see all doctors and nurses serving in the hospital be Maldivians.

The huge 159 bed hospital is to be built in to two blocks. Tree Top Investments have stated that one of the blocks would be specialized for patient care while the other would be specialized for employee accommodation. The company said that accommodation would also be made available to family members of patients admitted in the hospital.

Construction work on the hospital, which will provide treatment for illnesses that are not treatable in Maldives is expected to be complete by November, 2016. The hospital will be open to business on March 1, 2017.

Tree Top Investments is run by Crown Company, Kasa Holding, Champa Brothers, and Kurehdhoo Holdings.
