Maldives Police Service has held an interdepartmental discussion to combat child abuse.
Police said that the Directorates, Commands and the Departments of the Police took part in the discussions led by the Family and Child Protection Department. And all the action plans discussed have been put into action starting today.
In today’s meeting, the report shared with the Family and Child Protection Department by the Criminal Intelligence Department of the Directorate of Intelligence on the increase of child abuse cases in the country was discussed among the departments.
“The purpose of such a report is to work towards identifying child abusers, take measures against them, stop the crime and take steps against such criminals and preventing the crime from being repeated and protect the rights of children by the Police and other law enforcement institutes with special care.” Police said.
The participants of the meeting raised concerns about the alarming increase of child abuse cases in the country and noted the importance of taking preventive steps as soon as possible.
While the Police are holding discussions on combatting child abuse, last Friday night, ten people were arrested in Gn. Fuvahmulah for running a prostitution ring with two underage girls and blackmailing.
The Police are still investigating to find more people suspected to be involved in the case.
