Vice Chancellor of National University resigns

Dr Hassan Hameed has resigned from his post of Vice Chancellor of Maldives National University.

His resignation followed an amendment to the Maldives Islamic University Act - which came into effect yesterday - which gives the President the power to appoint an individual to the post of Vice Chancellor of Maldives National University.

Dr Hassan Hameed’s resignation has been confirmed to Sun Online by a senior official of the university.

The official said that Dr Hassan Hameed had not given any reason for his decision.

The amendment to the Maldives Islamic University Act states that nine out of 13 members of the university's Council shall also be appointed by the President.

The posts for which individuals shall be appointed by the President are Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Finance, and Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation.
