Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said that dengue fever has not been controlled.
This comes after Minister of Health Iruthisham Adam said yesterday that the number of dengue cases reported has gone down.
Medical Officer of HPA Fathimath Nazla Rafeeg told Sun Online that the latest weekly report, in fact, showed an upward trend in the number of cases.
She said that in spite of the increase in public awareness on the disease, it will take some time to see the results of the ongoing work in the islands to reduce mosquitoes.
Three people have died in the Maldives of dengue fever recently, prompting the government to launch a national campaign to destroy mosquito habitats.
