A man has been injured after getting hit by one of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL)’s vehicle used to move shipping containers.
An official from MPL told Sun Media that a part-time employee got under a barge handler in the incident today.
The injured man is now being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The MPL official said that he received injuries to his face. There has been no word from IGMH as of yet.
Explaining how the incident took place, the MPL official said that the man fell in front of the vehicle while it was driving at it’s likely that the man got hit by the steel bar of the vehicle.
“It’s very high since it’s a heavy vehicle. Looks like the man fell under it and got injured. He wouldn’t have survived if he went under the wheel.” The official said.
It is prohibited to trespass into the MPL cargo area.
A week ago, an MPL staff had his fingers crushed under a steel pipe used to lift containers.
