President: Necessary action being taken to guarantee health protection

President Abdulla Yameen has said that the government is doing everything necessary to guarantee health protection to all Maldivian citizens.

This came in a statement by the President today, in relation to the dengue outbreak in the country.

President Yameen said that efforts are ongoing by the government to provide necessary information to the public and facilitate treatment specific to fever and flu at health service institutions, and that expert teams have been assembled from relevant fields and institutions who will now dedicate their time to tackling this issue.

He urged everyone to play their part as individuals and families to protect themselves, including maintaining cleanliness at home and following instructions given by health authorities.

Yesterday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 30 June 2015, 384 cases of dengue fever had been reported from across the country.

The number of cases in Malé stood at 122, and the death of a five-year-old girl brought the death toll from dengue fever to three on Tuesday.
