The National Security Committee of the Parliament has reviewed and approved the appointment by President Abdulla Yameen, of former President of Civil Service Commission Mohamed Fahmy Hassan as the new Maldivian High Commissioner to Malaysia.
The decision was made at the 22nd meeting of the committee held on Tuesday, which was attended by 11 out of 12 members.
The committee said in its report that Fahmy has no criminal record or decreed debts, and hence is an appropriate individual for the post.
The committee also decided that there is no need for an interview, and sent the motion to the parliament for voting.
Fahmy’s appointment followed the resignation of Mohamed Fayaz as Maldivian High Commissioner to Malaysia on 27 May 2015.
Fahmy, who has also served the education sector for many years, presently holds the post of Deputy High Commissioner of Maldives to Malaysia.
