As Dengue Fever is spreading rapidly across the country, the demand for anti-mosquito products has risen in the market.
Starting last night, most shops in Malé City have run out of products like mosquito vaporizers. And the merchants say that the sales have gone up in anti-mosquito lotions and sprays.
“Compared to the past now it’s double the sales in anti-mosquito, most sold is “Moz Away Spray.”” The cashier at a pharmacy near ADK Hospital said.
Mosquito vaporizers are being sold for MVR 50 at in Malé. A normal mosquito lotion is for MVR 45 while a spray bottle is for MVR 110. And mosquito incense is for MVR 8.
According to the Medical Officer of the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Dr. Fathimath Nazlaa Rafeeg , the most important step against Dengue Fever is to stay protected from mosquitoes.
The prevention steps against Dengue Fever from Dr. Nazlaa include:
- Using a mosquito net when children are sleeping
- Everyone should cover their bodies completely with loose clothing
- Always use mosquito vaporizers or incense at home.
- Using anti-mosquito lotions or sprays.
Statistics shows that upto 2 p.m. yesterday, a total of 384 cases if Dengue Fever was reported in the country. 122 of those cases were reported from Malé City. Three people have died so far with Dengue Fever.
