Leader of the Jumhooree Party (JP), Qasim Ibrahim has spoken hinting support for the No Confidence motion against the Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.
In a text message to the MPs of JP, Qasim said that “if a President decides to take a no confidence against his Vice President, he does not see that the PG (Parliamentary Group) of Jumhooree Party has to refuse it.”
When asked about the text message, the MPs of JP say that to them the message portrays their leader’s support for the motion.
While Qasim has shown support for the No Confidence against the Vice President, he also asked the MPs to JP to support the amendment that excludes people over 65 years from Presidential candidacy which eliminates Qasim himself as a potential candidate.
MP Sujaau says that the target of the PPM’s Parliamentary Group is to assign the Tourism Minister, Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor as the Vice President on the day of the 50th Anniversary of Maldivian Independence on 26 July.
While the government MPs has presented a No Confidence motion against the Vice President Dr. Jameel, he is currently in London. There has been no response from the Vice President in regards to the motion.
