Economic Minister, Mohamed Saeed has said that the development of the Dhiyaneru lagoon near Aarah as a temporary harbor for safari yachts has been assigned to the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
“Dhiyaneru has been given to MPL to develop as a harbor for safari vessels for temporary use.” Minister Saeed said.
He said that the MPL is preparing to offer services required by the safaris at Dhiyaneru.
Minister Saeed said that there would be a yacht marina by the end of the second phase of the Hulhumalé Development Project and that would be a permanent harbor for safaris.
“If the safaris increase and the demand exceeds, the Dhiyaneru lagoon can be used at any time.” Minister Saeed said.
Minister Saeed met with the Liveaboard Association of Maldives and shared the news of a safari harbor.
According to the Liveaboard Association, the major talking points at the meeting was to find a safe harbor for safaris, forgiving the duty charges on safari building materials, a system to recognize luxury yachts and taking steps against people selling false vacations.
“Our Association was formed to discuss a harbor with the government.” The President of the Liveaboard Association, Hassan Haleem said.
He said that different people of Liveaboard have worked to find a dedicated harbor.
“A longtime dream of ours is fulfilled now.” President Haleem said.
There are 165 Safari yachts in the Maldives.
