Former President Mohamed Nasheed has been transferred to house arrest for three days.
Nasheed is serving a 13-year prison sentence after being convicted of terrorism.
Media Coordinator of Ministry of Home Affairs Thamzeel Abdul Samad told Sun Online that the transfer followed advice from Nasheed’s doctor at ADK Hospital.
“The doctor he consulted at ADK Hospital advised to allow him to stay in a 'fresh environment' for three days. So he has been transferred to house arrest as per Correctional Service procedures,” Thamzeel told Sun Online.
Following the transfer, Nasheed is at his wife’s house M. Yaagoothuge.
Nasheed has visited doctors in Malé several times since he was sent to prison, but no information is available regarding his health condition.
Nasheed was found guilty of terrorism and sentenced to 13 years in prison by Criminal Court on 13 March 2015, in relation to the arrest during his presidency, of Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed.
