Opposition Parliamentary Group decides not to endorse Fisheries Minister and Defense Minister

The Opposition Parliamentary Group has announced last night that it has decided not to endorse the re-appointed Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr Ibrahim Didi and newly appointed Minister of Defense, Thalhath Ibrahim for the portfolios.

According to the group's Spokesperson and Galolhu-South constituency’s MP Ahmed Mahloof, the Opposition Parliamentary Group which consist around 20 MPs decided with the unanimous consent of all members present in a meeting held at Nasandhura Palace Hotel last night. But Mahloof did not tell the volume of attendance.

Mahloof said that they decided not to endorse Dr Didi for the position as he was previously ousted by the parliament from the same position.

They decided not to endorse the Defense minister who was appointed on 21st June as MNDF, under his command, did not stop MDP activists who put a lock on the parliament gate; he also provided poor security to MPs who were trapped inside and also he voted in favor of the protest when the Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) National Council took a vote to gather in front of the parliament.

But the committee which reviewed the matter recommended the approval of Thalhath as Defence Minister while advised to reject Dr. Didi for the portfolio.

It is also reported that the Opposition Parliamentary Group also decided to submit a motion on MPs privileges against Transport Minister Adil Saleem at today’s parliament session, since Adil had failed to present himself to the parliament when he was asked to present him self before the parliament and the motion will be submitted by Gemanafushi MP and DRP’s Deputy Leader Ilham Ahmed.
