Rally notice for three days comes in to Police via SMS

The notice for opposition the opposition rally being organized for Friday by the biggest opposition party MDP has been sent to the Police via SMS saying that it would go on for three days.

MDP sent the notice for the rally after the Police indicated that they would not allow a protest rally without an official notice.

Secretary General of MDP, Anas Abdul-Sattar told Sun Media tonight that the Police was notified of the rally via SMS tonight with all the information required by law. And the law allows the notification via SMS, says Anas.

“The Peaceful Protest law says that it (notice) can be sent via SMS or an email as well. And the Police have publicized the number to SMS.” Anas said.

He said that the opposition rally to end the government’s “tyranny” would continue nonstop for three days.

When asked if the protest would continue in the hours of midnight, Anas said that that’s how it’s planned and those details were not included in the notification SMS.

Opposition Adhaalath Party is joining MDP on Friday’s rally. Opposition Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided not to take part in the rally.

Regarding the protest rally, President of the MDP’s Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih (Ibu) said that the rally would be a peaceful one and no conflict would be allowed.

Ibu said that at some point in the rally, they would sit down in Majeedhee Magu and raise their voice in protest.
