Ministry of Environment and Energy has signed an agreement with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to design and build coastal protection structures in Lhaviyani Kurendhoo.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony at the ministry this morning, by Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim, and CEO of MTCC Ibrahim Abdul Razzag.
Environment Ministry said that the project is designed for the construction of 220-metre revetment on the south-eastern side of Kurendhoo.
The project is expected to be completed within 3 months.
Speaking at the ceremony, Thorig highlighted the importance of building coastal protection structures in islands facing erosion.
He said that projects are ongoing to build coastal protection structures in three islands, and agreements have been signed for similar projects in seven more islands.
