Dhunya: It is distressing that external actors continue to provide support to radical elements

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dhunya Maumoon has said that Islam is a peaceful religion and it is distressing to the Maldives that external actors to continue to provide all forms of support to such radical elements particularly, in emerging democracies.

Speaking at the 42and session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Minister Dhunya said that to enjoy the glory of the true values of Islam, Muslims should stand united.

“Radicalism has no place in Islam. Nonetheless, in every corner of our Ummah, faces of radicalism stare back at us. It is most distressing to the Maldives that external actors to continue to provide all forms of support to such radical elements particularly, in emerging democracies.” Minister Dhunya said.

Foreign Minister Dhunya also raised the Maldivian concerns over the Palestine issue condemning the illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine.

“The Maldives calls on countries around the world, to support the State of Palestine and to recognize its sovereignty in Palestinian territories.” Minister Dhunya said today.

Highlighting the wars across Syria, Libya and Yemen and the state of the Rohingya Muslims scattered in the South East Asia, saying that peace “Peace has to win over the war” and “compassion has to be shown” to the Rohingya Muslims.

And acknowledging the number of women officials at the session, Minister Dhunya said that Muslim countries have to continue instead of constraining the rights of women.
